Angelia Vanderlaan, a Dalhousie University PhD candidate in biological oceanography, shown on the Northwest Arm in Halifax on Friday, June 27, 2008, is using sophisticated tracking devices to identify vessels in an area that is a crucial habitat for the North Atlantic right whale. Data transmitted from ships is processed by Vanderlaan who follows the movements of vessels as they make passage in the Roseway Basin area off the coast of Nova Scotia.THE CANADIAN PRESS/Andrew Vaughan
