Johnson County Fracking

In this April 9, 2013 photo, cypress trees, many of which are over 1,000 years old and exceed 40-feet in circumference, are seen in the Cache River State Natural Area near Belknap, Ill. A petition with signatures from more than 1,000 residents, about twice the number required to put the issue on the March ballot, was submitted on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, to the county clerk, according to a report in The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan. The referendum will give Johnson County voters a chance to tell county officials how they feel about high-volume oil and gas drilling. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman)
