Manitoba promises fuel tax suspension, recognition of Orange Shirt Day as statutory holiday in throne speech

Manitoba’s NDP government has laid out its plans for the coming year in its first throne speech since winning the Oct. 3 election. The speech repeats many NDP campaign promises, such as establishing Orange Shirt Day or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday in the province, searching a Winnipeg-area landfill for the remains of two First Nations women and acknowledging Métis leader Louis Riel as the first premier of Manitoba.
