Montreal-area teachers form a human chain to protest Quebec government's secularism bill

A group of teachers at Westmount High School protested the Quebec government’s secularism bill, which they characterized as an attack on the fundamental rights of their students. The bill bans the wearing of religious symbols by state employees in positions of authority. The government says the bill aligns with the values of Quebecers, but opponents say it targets religious minorities and especially Muslim women teachers who wear the hijab.
