Newsroom Ready: Joly says UN ceasefire vote aims to end ‘cycle of violence’ in Gaza

Canada has voted in favour of a non-binding resolution at the United Nations that calls for "an immediate humanitarian ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas. Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says the change in Canada’s long-standing position of voting with Israel at the international body is because of a concern that the situation in the Gaza Strip "will only enhance the cycle of violence."
