Newsroom Ready: St. John’s shuts down under blizzard warning

The City of St. John’s declared a state of emergency Friday as blizzard conditions descended on the city. Environment Canada issued wind and blizzard warnings across Newfoundland, with the heaviest impacts expected in the eastern part of the island. Up to 75 centimetres of snow was expected in some areas, along with white-out conditions from high winds. Streets were mostly empty of cars by late morning as residents prepared to be snowed in.
