Olivia Chow elected mayor of Toronto, vows change

Olivia Chow, a former NDP parliamentarian and longtime standard bearer for the progressive left, has been elected mayor of Toronto. She promised to bring change to a city grappling with housing unaffordability, public safety concerns and a massive budget shortfall. Chow, who beat out 101 other candidates, becomes the first person of colour elected to the mayor’s chair in Canada’s most populous city. (June 27, 2023)
