Grim Sleeper Killings

FILE - In this July 7, 2010, file photo, Porter Alexander Jr. holds a photo picturing his deceased daughter, Alicia Monique Alexander, left, in Los Angeles. Alexander believes his daughter was murdered by the "Grim Sleeper" in 1988, when she was 18. Los Angeles Police have named Lonnie Franklin Jr., as the main suspect in the case. Porter Alexander spent more than 20 years wondering if his daughter’s killer would ever be caught. Now he’s hoping he’ll live to see him brought to justice. Alexander, now 74, urged a judge Friday, Feb. 6, 2014, to set a trial date for Lonnie Franklin Jr., who is charged with 10 counts of murder, and has been dubbed the “Grim Sleeper” serial killer. Prosecutors are citing Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved victim’s bill of right, to argue that the right to a speedy trial, guaranteed for defendants, also extends to family members of the victims.
