IBM Centennial

FILE - In this file photo taken Dec. 1, 1995, a production worker at the IBM plant in Essex Junction, Vt., checks a wafer of computer chips. IBM will make a custom computer chip for a new Nintendo model that will provide more computing power and more animated graphics. IBM was formed on June 16, 1911, as the Computing Tabulating Recording Co. in a merger of four separate companies. The new business with a plant in Endicott, N.Y., made scales, time clocks, cheese slicers and _ significantly for its future _ machines that read data stored on punch cards.
