Barzin Bahardoust, ceo of Canadian Plasma Resources hopes to get approval from Health Canada soon so he can open his new plasma clinic in downtown Toronto. While there are some groups who are concerned about a clinic that pays for donated plasma, Bahardoust, standing in the Processing Room, explains that the plasma collected will not be used in any medical transfusions and is destined to be fractionated for use by the pharma industry to make drugs. As well, there are several levels of screening to prevent people from just walking off the street, hoping to collect quick cash for their donation. Payment will be forwarded to credit cards that can be topped up and there are some people who simply won't be able to donate any plasma at all. (Fred Lum/The Globe and Mail)
