Chicago Archbishop
FILE -In this Feb. 4, 2009 photo the rectory of Holy Name Cathedral, left, is shown as Chicago firefighters work in freezing temperatures on an extra-alarm fire at the Cathedral in Chicago. The incoming archbishop of Chicago, Blase Cupich has chosen to live in the rectory of Holy Name, rather than the mansion where Cardinal Francis George has lived for years. When appointed the new archbishop of Chicago, Blase Cupich argued that Pope Francis was sending a mere pastor and not a message. But Cupich has been sending Francis-like messages of his own as he prepares to officially assume leadership Tuesday of one of the largest and most high-profile archdioceses in the U.S. Among the most welcomed was that he would live in a simple rectory rather than the mansion, as his predecessors did. It was among a number of signs, embraced by the city’s Catholics, that he is eager to be seen as part of the archdiocese, rather than above it, as was sometimes the case with his immediate predecessor.
