Vietnam Montagnards VIETNAM ARCHIVAL 220

This is an aerial view of a "self-defense" village into which anti-communist mountain tribes men called Montagnards have been moved near Kontum in central highlands of South Vietnam on December 16, 1962. The resettlement program by U.S. and Vietnamese governments have chipped away communist Vietcong influence in the highlands. Before resettlement Montagnards lived in two-to-three family units. Now they live in the large, "well -guarded" "self-defense" villages. (AP Photo/Horst Faas)
