CP LGBTQ IDENTITIES JAMESTOWN

People in Ghana who follow traditional religions say they're worried that a proposed anti-gay law will crack down on indigenous identities. Ghana has numerous gender and sexual minority identities that existed before colonization, and they vary by tribe and language. A new bill would ban a number of acts, including crossdressing which is used in some ceremonies where traditional healers channel a spirit of the opposite sex. Activists are hoping to learn from Indigenous scholars in Canada who have documented two-spirit people. The Canadian Press has prepared a map locating Accra, Ghana's suburb of Jamestown. The graphic accompanies Travers-LGBTQ-Identities
