Lew Carpenter Brain Injury Football

FILE - In this Oct. 11, 1959, file photo, Green Bay Packers halfback Lewis Carpenter (33) is upended by San Francisco 49ers Matt Hazeltine (55) in the second quarter of an NFL football game in Green Bay, Wis. Carpenter died in 2010 at age 78 after more than four decades as an NFL player and coach. Researchers at Boston University and the Veterans Administration Medical Center announced in December 2011 they found evidence of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy while studying Carpenter's brain.
