Crane Hanging Picking Up Container

1963 and JFK

FILE - In this June 18, 1963 file photo, a derrick that usually lifts out marble blocks, deposits civil defense containers that will be used for water storage in the Imperial Marble Quarry at Danby, Vt. The quarry, extending under Dorset Mountain, has been equipped with a supply of 35,000 pounds of survival "crackers" and 1,400 7 1/2-pound metal water containers, allowing the quarry to be turned into a two-week fallout shelter for 7,000 persons in case of nuclear attack.
