VATICAN POPE JOHN XXIII
This photo shows the body of Pope John XXIII as he lies in state inside his Apostolic Palace apartment at the Vatican on the morning of June 4, 1963, dressed in his red papal robes and wearing his golden Bishop's miter on his head, flanked by two Noble Guards. The Vatican plans to put the body of the pontiff on display in St. Peter's Square to give the faithful an opportunity to pray before one of the most beloved popes. The June 3 ceremony comes on the 38th anniversary of John's death and is an indication of the Vatican's enthusiasm for his eventual sainthood. (AP Photo)
