Peter Fonda, the star, co-writer and producer of the 1969 cult classic Easy Rider, has died at the age of 79. Peter Fonda was part of a veteran Hollywood family. As well as being the brother of Jane Fonda, he was also the son of actor Henry Fonda, and father to Bridget, also an actor.

American illusionist David Blaine is assisted from his perspex box at the South Bank near to Tower Bridge, London, 44 days after beginning his starvation stunt. The self-styled modern day Houdini told the crowd "I love all of you forever" after he was lowered to the ground by the crane which has been holding him above the Thames near Tower Bridge in London, since September 5. Blaine was immediately attended to by paramedics who placed him in a stretcher before he was taken to a waiting ambulance to be driven to a private hospital.
Former Prime Minister Lady Thatcher is comforted by her grandson Michael Thatcher outside the memorial service of her late husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, in The Guards Chapel, Birdcage Walk, London. A vintage navy vessel that survived world wars and the Halifax Explosion is falling victim to a more mundane threat -- the destructive force of salt water.
