After a hold-up of 12 hours, due to unfavourable weather, the 'Queen Elizabeth' moved from 101 berth in Southampton New Dock to the King George V Dry Dock for the next stage of her conversion from troopship to luxury passenger liner. The operation of moving the giant liner in to the dock, where she will remain for about two weeks, took nearly 90 minutes. She is due to make her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York as a passenger liner in October 16th 1946.

The 85,000 ton "Queen Elizabeth" occupies almost the entire area of the huge King George V Dock at Southampton. The enormous vessel is being re-fitted from it's wartime role as a troop ship to it's peace time role as a luxury cruise ship.
