Child Victims 20091118

Steve Sullivan, right, tours the Centre d'Expertise Marie Vincent Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec. Canada needs to take a page from the Americans and expand its network of kid-friendly one-stop shops for young victims of sexual abuse, says the federal ombudsman for victims of crime. On Friday, National Child Day, Sullivan will ask Ottawa and its provincial and municipal counterparts to make child advocacy centres a priority. The centres, popularized in the United States, bring police, prosecutors, doctors and social workers under one roof. Sullivan says it makes the process less stressful for children and leads to more charges and better conviction rates. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Ryan Remiorz
