Nobel Literature Past Winners

FILE - In this July 14, 1946 file photo, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill gives his world famous V-sign, as he drives through Metz, France, during Bastille Day celebrations. Churchill was a prolific writer, producing a body of work that included a history of World War II, the conflict that he is most associated with. When awarded the 1953 Nobel Prize in Literature, Churchill was praised "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values". This year's winner is set to be announced on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017. (AP Photo, File)
