CHURCH BOMBING

A large crater left by a bomb that exploded near a basement room of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. is shown in this September 15, 1963, photo. Thomas Blanton Jr., a onetime member of the Ku Klux Klan, and a longtime suspect in the bombing of the Birmingham church was indicted on a murder charge and surrendered Wednesday, May 17th, 2000. The explosion killed four young girls. (AP Photo)
