LAKE SUPERIOR SWIM

About 15 minutes before Jim Dreyer began his swim across Lake Superior on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, a wall of fog blew into the bay and it began to rain in Grand Portage, Minn. Dreyer is trying to to swim across all five Great Lakes. Dreyer, a resident of Byron Center near Grand Rapids, Mich., made successful swims of Lake Michigan in August 1998 and Lake Huron in September 1999. He swam Lake Erie in July 2000 and Lake Ontario the following month. In 1988, Canadian marathoner Vicki Keith became the first known person to swim all five Great Lakes.
