SILVERDOME FAREWELL

This is a view of the Pontiac Silverdome, March 12, 1982, as the NCAA Indoor Track championships continue on one side of the Silverdome while the Detroit Pistons court is assembled. When the Silverdome was built at a cost of $55.7 million in 1973-75, it was an engineering marvel. The air-supported and cable-restrained stadium was the largest of its kind and was the first example of a fiberglass-fabric roof. It has 80,325 seats. On Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, the Detroit Lions will play their last game at thedomed stadium before moving to the new Ford Field in downtown Detroit in 2002. (AP Photo)
