ENTANGLED WHALE MA

Scientists approach a North Atlantic right whale entangled in marine rope about 80 miles East of Provincetown, Mass., Saturday, July 14, 2001, and prepared for their third attempt to sedate and free the animal. Weather conditions were optimal when rescuers reached the whale, dubbed Churchill, said a National Marine Fisheries Service spokeswoman. Scientists administered a sedative during a previous rescue attempt June 26 but the sedative had no effect. Rough seas hindered a second rescue attempt Tuesday.
