Mysterious Visitor

**FILE** Jeff Jerome, curator of the Poe House and Museum in Baltimore, stands Jan. 19, 2005 with a bottle of cognac and three roses that a mysterious visitor left around 1:30 a.m., near Edgar Allan Poe's grave in Baltimore. Since 1949 someone has marked Poe's birthday by mysteriously leaving roses and cognac near his grave in a small Baltimore cemetery. Sam Popora, who led the fight to preserve the historic site, said in August 2007, that he created the legend about a cloaked figure who leaves a bottle of cognac and three roses at Poe's grave.
