APN ISOLATED RESORT

** APN ADVANCE FOR Sunday, MARCH 12 **Phillip Smith, a longtime area resident who runs the Study Butte Water Supply Corp., takes a break on the porch outside the Terlingua Trading Co. store, Jan. 13, 2006, in Terlingua, Texas. For years the nearby town of Lajitas, Texas, on the banks of the Rio Grande was known for its century-old trading post and a beer-drinking goat that was once elected mayor. But in 2000 the town, a 25,000-acre swath of rugged desert in a remote corner of Southwestern Texas, was sold at auction to an Austin multimillionaire entrepreneur. Now Lajitas The Ultimate Hideout is a big-bucks golf resort catering to the rich. Smith said the resort may not be the ideal neighbor, but change is inevitable. (AP Photo/Matt Slocum)
