WALLACE ANNIVERSARY

Former Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace is flanked by a 1935 photo of himself as a two-time State Golden Gloves Champion as he smokes a cigar at his Montgomery, Ala., in this Feb. 8, 1996, photo. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, will mark the 30th anniversary the assassination attempt by Arthur Bremer that left Wallace paralyzed from the waist down. Wallace was a boxer in his youth and vigorous as an adult, and his son, George Wallace, Jr., says he is certain his father would still be alive today if it weren't for Bremer's bullets, one of which struck his spinal cord.
