Greenwich Village Landmark

FILE - In this Nov. 8, 1963, file photo, Dave Van Ronk's jug band performs at the the Gaslight Cafe, which was located in the basement of 116 MacDougal Street in New York's Greenwich Village. Van Ronk is second from right. The address of the former coffee house falls within the city's newest historic landmark area and is part of a neighborhood where generations of American cultural greats staged their art, music, literature and politics — from Edgar Allan Poe and Bob Dylan to Miles Davis and Allen Ginsberg. About 250 buildings in Manhattan's Greenwich Village that reach back to the 1800s gained historic district status Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, after a unanimous vote by the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission.
