HALL OF FAME

New York Mets' Gary Carter hits a three-run homer against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sept. 16, 1985 in New York. Carter, an 11-time All-Star catcher, got elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 with 78 percent (387). He fell 11 votes short last year at 72.7 percent.
