BC-ZARLINK-MITEL

FILE - Ottawa based high-tech magnate Terry Matthews poses in Toronto Tuesday July 10, 2001. Mitel Networks Corp., a telecommunications equipment maker taken over two years ago by technology baron Terry Matthews, has no value in the foreseeable future, Zarlink Semiconductor Inc. said Tuesday, April 9, 2003. Zarlink, a maker of telecom chips which sold its network equipment business and the Mitel name to Matthews, said it is taking an $11.5-million-US writedown on its residual holding in privately held Mitel. Zarlink said it is making the move as a result of its "assessment of financial information recently received from Mitel Networks Corp. and of ongoing challenges in the enterprise communications market."
