OBIT-ALBERT-RITCHIE

Albert Edgar Ritchie, shown here in this 1969 photo, one of the most influential figures in Canadian diplomacy, has died in Ottawa at age 85 of a stroke. Ritchie was with prime minister Pierre Trudeau during his visit to China in 1973, and in a gondola in Moscow with Soviet president Leonid Brezhnev in 1972 when Paul Henderson scored his winning goal in the Canada-U.S.S.R. hockey series.
