YOUTHBEAT

Simon Jackson, 17, holds a picture of an endangered White Spirit Bear at his home in West Vancouver April 29, 2000. Jackson is one of four Canadians being touted as "heroes of the planet" in TIME magazine's first global edition. Jackson began his crusade to save grizzly bears from extinction at seven. By 12, he was crusading to save white Kermode spirit bears, only 100 of which survive in the B.C. northeast. (CP PHOTO/Lyle Stafford)
