Retail sales fall 1.1 per cent to $69.2B in May driven by lower auto sales

Statistics Canada says retail sales decreased 1.1 per cent to $69.2 billion in May, driven lower by sales declines at motor vehicle and parts dealers. Experts say many Canadians reined in their spending alongside uncertainty related to the U.S.-Canada trade war and a softening labour market. (July 24, 2025).
