One of the largest volcanoes on Russia's Kamchatka sends ash columns soaring into sky

Shiveluch, one of the most active volcanoes in Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, erupted on Thursday evening, spewing clouds of ash as high as 15 kilometres (12 miles) into the sky and covering broad areas with dust. The ash cloud extended over 250 kilometres (more than 150 miles) to the east and engulfed several villages in grey volcanic dust
