Investigation into a European fraud network leads to seizure of more than 2,000 fake artworks
Forgers made fake Warhols, Banksys and Picassos and tried to sell them to unsuspecting buyers with the help of complicit auction houses in Italy. Thirty-eight people were placed under investigation in an operation that may have dismantled a network that could have done 200 million euro ($212 million) in economic damage by flooding the art market with phony works.
