Matthew Rankin’s ‘Universal Language’ named best Canadian film by Toronto critics

‘Universal Language’ won the $50,000 Best Canadian Film prize at Monday’s Toronto Film Critics Association Awards. Writer-director Matthew Rankin says he believes the film resonates because it’s ‘a very gentle film at a point in history that is anything but gentle.’ (Feb 25, 2025)
