LGBTQ+ Kenyans seek empowerment through religion

LGBTQ+ groups across Africa are launching their own church services in a bid to turn religion from a tool of persecution into a source of empowerment. Edwin Gumbe, the activity co-ordinator with the HIV-prevention group Anza Mapema, says its weekly service is a tool to try and address religious narratives that vilify people who are gender or sexual minorities.
