STANDARD OF LIVING
LUM49-061112D.JPG
Loose fabric housing wrap blows in the breeze on the Lake St. Martin reserve in Manitoba photographed Oct 31 2012. A mandatory evacuation forced residents of the First Nation community to leave without the chance to properly go through their belongings since they thought they would be returning. More than a year later, many still live away Winnipeg hotels, away from their home community. A few residents continue to live in the abandoned reserve but many crawl spaces and basements still hold water leading to the growth of mould. (Fred Lum/The Globe and Mail)
