Paralyzed Calgary surgeon has undergone experimental surgery in Thailand with positive results
Calgary surgeon Dr. Richi Gill saw his life change in a moment a year ago when he was paralyzed from the neck down in an accident in Hawaii. He could only move his arms and had little movement with his hands or below the neck. Gill went to Thailand to have a device installed on his spine to take advantage of epidural electrical stimulation which connects to the spine above the injury to an area below. The device can be programmed to stimulate nerves which can allow some movement. Gill says it isn't a cure but he just wants to have a better quality of life.
