Canadian director of the United Auto Workers Bob White announces a strike by 36,000 workers at General Motors of Canada Ltd. Plants in Ontario and Quebec at news conference in Toronto, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1984. White, who was instrumental in creating the Canadian Auto Workers union, has died at the age of 81.
