Wildlife advocates thrilled with success of overpasses in Banff National Park

Wildlife advocates say the use of overpasses and underpasses in Banff National Park over the past 20 years has been a huge success. There are still about 60 wildlife fatalities in the region according to the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y), but spokeswoman Hilary Young, says wildlife deaths have been reduced by 80 per cent. She says there are six overpasses in Banff National Park and 38 underpasses. Young says plans to build another overpass east of the park boundary is positive news since the stretch of highway is still a hot spot for collisions.
