B.C. marks new record in toxic drug crisis

British Columbia has recorded its highest-ever monthly number of suspected deaths from toxic illicit drugs with 201 in October. Chief coroner Lisa Lapointe told a news conference that quickly expanding access to safe alternatives to the increasingly toxic illicit drug supply is essential to saving lives. She says six people are dying every day more than five years after the province first declared a public health emergency in response to rising overdose deaths and more action is urgently needed.
