Newsroom Ready: Maryam Monsef urges Taliban to allow Afghans to flee

Maryam Monsef, the Liberal minister for women and gender equality, sparked controversy with how she appealed directly to the Taliban to allow Afghans to flee the country. She says she referred to them as “brothers” because Muslims refer to each other as “brothers and sisters” and that she believes the Taliban are a terrorist organization. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh were asked about her remarks on the campaign trail.
