NEW YORK. x--13s. A judge has denied bail for American financier Jeffrey Epstein after prosecutors argued the jet-setting defendant is a danger to the public and might flee the country. The ruling means Epstein will remain behind bars while he fights charges that he exploited dozens of girls in New York and Florida in the early 2000s. Lawyer Sigrid McCawley says her clients are thrilled by the judge's decision.

TAG: The defence had argued Epstein should be allowed to await trial under house arrest with electronic monitoring at his 77-million-dollar Manhattan mansion. But U-S District Judge Richard Berman said this morning that no bail package could overcome what he called the “danger to the community.”
