Environmental groups use high-tech tools to keep tabs on development

Finding out what industrial development looked like on the ground used to be difficult when it involved remote places or rough country. But with the advent of widely available satellite images, precise GPS and increasingly powerful computers, it's much easier for environmentalists to keep tabs on what's happening -- and plan excursions such as a helicopter trip to check out coal exploration in Alberta's foothills.
