ROYAL FAMILY
VISITS TO CANADA

FILEPIC51-301211.jpg

JULY 6, 1970 -- ROYAL TOUR OF CANADIAN ARCTIC -- It was midnight and overcast in the community of Tuktoyaktuk, in the land of the midnight sun. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, both now wearing colorful presentation parkas walk by townspeople during their short visit to this small Inuit settlement on the shores of the Beaufort Sea. Their visit to the land of the midnight sun had been disappointing weather-wise -- plunging temperatures and cloudy skies had obscured the famous view of the sun shining at midnight above the horizon of the Arctic Ocean. The Royal Family left after just a few hours visit. Photo by John McNeill / The Globe and Mail
