Rescuers free entangled humpback whale off B.C. coast
A humpback whale has been freed from more than 130 metres of rope and fishing gear in a rescue operation in B.C. waters by a crew with the Fisheries Department. Cheyenne Brewster, with Vancouver Island Whale Watch, says two of her company’s vessels spotted the whale named Fader off eastern Vancouver Island on Sept. 21 and called it in. It was freed a few days later in a six-hour-long process. (Sept. 26, 2025)
