Civil society team heading to Syria, but Ottawa won't support repatriation efforts

A civil society delegation including Sen. Kim Pate and Alex Neve, formerly of Amnesty International Canada, plans to travel to northeastern Syria to learn more about detained Canadians — without Ottawa’s help to repatriate them. Sally Lane, mother of detainee Jack Letts, says she won’t go as it would be too difficult to return to Canada without her son. (June 22, 2023)
