Newsroom Ready: Governor General visits James Smith Cree Nation
Gov. Gen. Mary Simon visited James Smith Cree Nation after 10 people were fatally stabbed in the community and nearby Weldon during attacks on Sept. 4. Simon, who toured some of the gravesites of those who were killed, says it was a great honour to grieve with the community, and she will be taking a message back to Ottawa that will encourage more supports for the First Nation.
