Latin Interventions

FILE - In this May 15, 1965 file photo, U.S. soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division, from left, PFC. Leanderous Brown, Sgt. Douglas Lucas, of Whitesbury, Ky., and PFC. Robert Booker, of Baltimore, Md., set up a machine gun outpost on the eighth floor of a flour mill along the Ozama River, overlooking the rebel-held sector of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The men had orders to return fire only when fired upon and when they locate a definite target. In 1965, U.S. forces landed in the Dominican Republic to intervene in a civil war. (AP Photo, File)
